Amphora

Regular price $650.00

Using a centuries-old American technique for making rugs, the Amphora is hand-formed with cable that is woven on cast-iron machines from the 1940s, a finely skilled sculpting process done by expert sewers.

The Amphora is a reference to the un-precious ceramic vase used in Ancient Greece and Rome for storage and transport of oil, wine, and sundries. More elaborately painted amphorae were awarded as prizes to the best runners in the Panathenaic Games, containing olive oil from the sacred grove of Athena.

The Amphora stands at about 19". Part of the woven vessel collection. Shown in varied black figure cable, in a blend of wool and synthetic yarns. Custom colors and collaborations are possible.
